OK show and shearing season is almost over for us for this year. We still have a couple of girls to be clipped but as they are so close to giving birth we are leaving them for just a little longer until after they have given birth.
Numbers on our farm are now at around 30 as we have taken on a around 20 "house guests" as we agist for some fellow breeders. It's very pleasing to the eye to see so many grazing in the paddock compared to our gradually increasing handful.

Births out of Tutapi hembra have finished for this season with only a couple of our agisted animals still to deliver
Rain has fallen but the lack of the precious wet stuff at spring-time, coupled with late frosts has resulted in little paddock growth. As such we are feeding out twice daily - not a cheap option *sigh*

Fears that our macho Nocturne may be infertile have risen and we are now awaiting the results of a veterinary investigation....things do not look good for the little guy so we are now looking at once again using outside males. The joys of breeding livestock.

Well a lot has happened since our last update. Nocturne has been confirmed infertile by our vet and despite holding out a slim prayer that he may come good we are on the verge of giving up on the possibility and, under veterinary advice, he will most likely have to be castrated. In light of this we have added a Medium Fawn male to our herd, 'El Kobar Lassiters Reef', to put over our current and future black girls. We have had some rain and the grass is growing well. Due to circumstances beyond our control ( a difficult birth and suspected snake bite ) we lost two cria from our agisted girls last summer, hopefully that is all behind us. So far we have only had one spring birth from Inca Silken Shadow, an agisted female belonging to Limelight alpacas, a lovely Mid to Dark Grey suri male who is looking very special at an early age.
Show season is Tasmania is almost over for 2007 but we are unable to attend the last show at Huon this year. We had another successful experience with both 'Rifle' and in particular 'Crossbow' doing us proud. Have a look at our Show Results page for a full run down.
